Ryan graduated in 1993 from Brandon Valley High School.
Ryan was a five-year letter winner in the sport of wrestling. He was a four-time State Meet place winner. He placed fifth as a freshman and fourth as a sophomore. In his junior season, he was undefeated until the state semi-finals, and finished with a win in the third place match. His high school career culminated in an undefeated season, a state championship and being named the Outstanding Wrestler at the state meet. He was then invited to the High School National Meet, where he place sixth and was named an All-American.
Ryan went on to wrestle at the University of Nebraska, where he lettered four years. He was a three-time All-American, placing eighth, third, and fourth in order his final three years and won several academic honors along the way. He was the 1997 Pan American and University National Champion.
His wrestling career continued with USA Wrestling and took him around the world with great success. In 2004, he earned third place at the US Open, won the Olympic Team Regional competition, and participated in the Olympic Team Trials.
His favorite memories include all of the time on and off of the mat with the Class of 1993 and his championship, which represented the years of hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that they all invested in each other. |
